SPEAKING TO RULERS

“I (Muhammad, the son of Zaid) said, ‘Some people said to his grandfather: 'Abdullah, the son of Omar, 'We visit our rulers and say things to them that are contrary to that which we say when we leave them.' Abdullah answered, 'In the time of the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, we considered this hypocrisy.'"

Bukhari with a chain up to Muhammad the son of Zaid who related this.
