“A hypocrite has three distinctive characteristics: when he talks he lies, when he makes a promise he breaks it, and when something is entrusted to him he embezzles it.”

He added:

“Even if he prays, fasts and considers himself a Muslim.”

Bukhari and Muslim with a chain up to Abu Hurairah who related the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, said this.
