“A man said to the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, ‘O Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, I love you.’ He said, ‘Look at what you are saying!’

The man said, ‘Indeed, I love you’ and repeated it three times. The Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, said, ‘If you really love me, prepare for poverty, because poverty advances more rapidly towards one who loves me than a flood rushes towards its end.’"

Tirmidhi with a chain up to Abdullah, the son of Mughaffal who related this hadith.
