“A man was brought to him (ibn Mas'ud) and he was told, ‘This is so and so and his beard smells of liquor.’ Ibn Mas'ud said, ‘We have been forbidden to search for faults, we observe only that which is clear.’"

Abu Daud with a chain up to ibn Mas'ud who related this.
