THE PROMPTING OF SATAN

“The Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, was in seclusion in the Mosque and I, (Lady Safia, wife of the Prophet, Mother of Believers may Allah be pleased with her) went there to see him one evening.

After having spoken with him he stood up to accompany me for part of the way. Two men passed us and when they saw the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, they quickened their pace. The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, called out to them, ‘Wait a moment. This is Safia, the daughter of Huyay.’ Whereupon they exclaimed, ‘Exalted is Allah, O Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him.’ Then the Messenger of Allah commented, ‘satan (the stoned and cursed) flows as blood through a man, and I feared in case this might create some evil in your mind.’"

Or, he said, ‘This may create something in your mind.’

Bukhari and Muslim with a chain up to Lady Safia, daughter of Huyyi, may Allah be pleased with her, wife of the Prophet, Mother of Believers, related that the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, said this.
