WHEN TO ACCEPT
539
“The Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, would give Abdullah, Omar’s son something and say, ‘Give it to someone who is in greater need of it than I.’ He continued saying, ‘If something comes your way without either your asking or desire, accept it as your property. Either use it yourself or give it away as charity. As for other things, do not go to lengths to acquire them.’”
“Abdullah, the son of Omar would never ask anyone for anything, and refused to accept anything he was offered.”
Bukhari and Muslim with a chain up to ibn Omar who related this hadith.
