FASTING DURING THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF DHUL HIJA

“There are no days during which a virtuous action is more pleasing to Allah than the first ten days of Dhul Hija. He was asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, not even striving in the Cause of Allah?’ He answered, ‘Not even striving in the Cause of Allah except in the case of one who goes forth with his life and his property and does not return with either.’"

Bukhari and Muslim with a chain up to ibn Abbas who related that the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, said this.
