“A man came to the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, and asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, if a person comes intending to rob me of my property what shall I do?’ He answered, ‘Do not allow him to take it.’ The man asked, ‘What should I do if he fights me?’ The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, said, Then fight him.’ The man asked, ‘What if he kills me?’ The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, replied, ‘Then you would be a martyr.’ The man asked, ‘But what if I killed him?’ The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, answered, ‘He will be in the Fire.’"

Muslim with a chain up to Abu Hurairah who related that the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, said this.
