his notice that his shrinking is pure ignorance and is the cause of his missing
the benefit he seeks; he ought to be informed that the closeness of the
counterfeit to the good coin does not make the good coin counterfeit or the
counterfeit good. In the same way the proximity between truth and falsehood
does not make truth falsehood nor falsehood truth.

3. The Danger of `Authoritative Instruction’.

By the time I had done away with the science of philosophy, understanding
