The breakdown of the generations from the time of the Holy Prophet,
praise and peace be upon him, right up until now are
the chains of transmitters of the Islamic Sciences which are
traced directly to the Holy Prophet himself. The transmission
of the Prophetic Quotations (Hadith) were handed down either
by word of mouth or written down throughout the generations
and these chains consist of thousands of both learned men
and women.
According to the life span of the people in the chain, the numbers
of links in the chain up to the Holy Prophet, praise and
peace be upon him, vary. In some where a long life has prevailed
