Allah, praise and peace be upon him, to Ji‟ramah.
Safwan was with the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon, as he inspected
the spoils of war. The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, and Safwan
went to a valley in which many herds of camels, goats and shepherds had been driven.
The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, noticed how taken Safwan was
by the sight of so many animals whereupon he asked, “Does this valley please you?”
“Indeed it does” replied Safwan, "Then," said the Prophet praise and peace be upon him,
"it is yours, and all that is in it." The overwhelmed Safwan exclaimed, "I bear witness that
there is no god except Allah, and that Muhammad is the worshiper and Messenger of
Allah.”

In another narration, Safwan said that the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be
upon him, asked him to loan him some weapons and that he had asked if he was taking
them by force. To this the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, replied, “I
only wish to borrow them and anything that is damaged will be replaced.” During the
hostilities at Hunain some of the coats of armor were destroyed and so the Messenger of
Allah, praise and peace be upon him, approached Safwan in order to reimburse him for
the damages. Safwan declined saying, “O Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be
upon him, today, I have a greater desire to accept Islam (rather than being reimbursed).
May Allah be pleased with all the Companions.
