THE PROPHET’S INVITATION TO SA’AD, SON OF ZURARAH THE HEIRARCHY OF THE KORAYSH ABU HAYSIN & BANI ABDIL ASH’HAL THE CONVERSION OF IYAS, SON OF MU’ADAH Hayatus Sahabah by Muhadith Kandahlawi (Kandhelvi) Rendered into current English by Khadeijah Abdullah Darwish (Anne Stephens) Free give away Acquired from Amazon’s Kindle Not for sale or resale by any third party ©2013 - www.Muhammad.com THE CONVERSION OF SA’D ZURARAH AND DHAKWAN, SON OF ABD QAIS Khubayb, the son of Abdur Rahman narrates that Sa’d, son of Zurarah and Dhakwan, son of Abd Qais of Medina made the journey to Mecca to ask Utbah, the son of Rabeeah to settle a dispute. Upon their arrival in Mecca they heard about the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, so they went to see him. When they met the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, he recited some verses from the Koran to them whereupon they embraced Islam and left Mecca without visiting Utbah. Sa’d and Dhakwan became the first two people from Medina to embrace Islam. THE INVITATION TO THE HEIRARCHY OF THE KORAYSH Abdullah, the son of Abbas narrates that it was just after sunset when several of the Koraysh hierarchy gathered together near the Ka’bah for a meeting. Among the hierarchy were Utbah and Shaybah the two sons of Rabee'ah, Abu Sufyan son of Harb, a person from the tribe of Abdid Daar, Abul Bakhtari from the tribe of Banu Asad, Aswad, son of Abdil Muttalib son of Asad, Zam'ah son of Al Aswad, Waleed, son of Mughiera, Abu Jahal, son of Hisham, Abdullah, son of Abi Umayyah, Umayyah, son of Khalaf, Aas son of Waa'il, Nabeeh and Munabbah the sons of Hajaj from the tribe of Banu Sahm. It was decided amongst the hierarchy that one of them should go to the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, and tell him that his presence at a meeting by the Ka’bah of the hierarchy was required. It was the consensus of the hierarchy that they would speak in no uncertain terms to the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, about his preaching, so that the Arabs would know that they had made every effort (before they fought with him to bring the affair to an end). Upon locating the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, the Koraysh messenger told him that the leaders of the Koraysh had gathered together and wished to speak to him. The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, made haste to meet them, thinking that their resistance to Islam and their opinion of him had changed (and they were now ready to embrace Islam). The Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, was always concerned for their welfare and hoped that they would be rightly guided and abandon their errant ways. When the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, reached the Ka’bah, he sat down with them and their spokesman said, “O Muhammad, we have sent for you so that people may know we have done our best to persuade you (to stop your preaching). By Allah, we know of no other Arab who has caused so much distress among his people as you have done. You have insulted our forefathers, blasphemed our religion. Made our notables seem foolish, abused our gods and disrupted our unity. Everything you have done has spoiled the relationship between us. If it is wealth that you desire to stop propagating your message, we will combine together to make you the wealthiest person amongst us. If it is honor you want, we will make you our leader. If it is kingship you desire, we will make you our king. If you are doing this because you have been afflicted by evil spirits that have overcome you, then we shall spend all our fortune until you are cured or until we become helpless to find a cure for you.” The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, replied, “I do not seek to attain any of the things you have mentioned. I have not bought the message to you seeking either you wealth, or yet to attain honor or the kingship. Allah has sent me as a Messenger to you. Allah has revealed to me a Book and commanded me to convey the good tidings (of Paradise) but to also warn you (of the punishment of Hell). I have conveyed the message of my Lord to you, and given you sound advice. If you accept what I have brought, you will be fortunate in this world as well as in the Hereafter. However, should you reject this I shall wait for the decision of Allah when He decides matters between myself and yourselves." Having listened to the Messenger of Allah, the Koraysh hierarchy said (in mockery), “O Muhammad, as you won’t accept any of our proposals, you are well aware that there is no city more confined than ours, no nation poorer than us and no one has a harder life than ours. Therefore, ask your Lord who has sent you, to remove these mountains from us that prevent us from expanding our city, and to cause rivers like those of Sham and Iraq to flow. In addition to this, ask Him to restore our forefathers to life, and amongst those restored to life should be Qusay, the son of Kilab, because he was a pious person so that we can ask them whether or not you are truthful. If you fulfill all of this and should our forefathers verify what you say, then we will believe you and acknowledge your status before Allah and also acknowledge that Allah has sent you as a Messenger.” The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, told the gathering, “I have not be sent for these reasons. I have been sent you with that which Allah has sent me. If you accept it, you will experience good fortune in this world and in the next. But, if you reject this, I shall wait patiently for the command of Allah when He decides matters between yourself and myself.” The unbelievers continued in their defiant attitude saying, “If you do not wish to ask Allah for this then do something for yourself! Ask your Lord to send an angel to verify what you say and to answer on your behalf. Ask Him to grant you orchards, treasure, palaces of gold and silver that would make you independent of the things we assume you desire, because you just stand in the market places and earn a living just as we do. If you do this, we will acknowledge your high status in the Sight of your Lord. You would do this, if you were truly a Prophet as you claim!” The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, said, “I will not do any of this, I do not ask my Lord for such things and I have not been sent to you for this reason. Allah has sent me as a bearer of good tidings and as a warner. “ In mockery, the unbelievers said, “Well, cause the sky to fall upon us as you claim, if your Lord is able to do so. We will never believe you unless you do this!” The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, replied, “That is in the hands of Allah. If He wills, He will cause it to happen.” Scornfully they said, “O Muhammad, didn’t your Lord know that we would be sitting here with you asking you for these things? Could He not have informed you earlier about the questions we will be asking you and how to reply! Could He not have told you what He will do with us if we refused to accept what you say? The news has reached us that you have learned everything you say from a man in Yamama whose name is Rahman. By Allah, we will never believe in Rahman! O Muhammad, we have presented everything to you without omitting a single thing. By Allah, we will never leave you alone, and keep taking our revenge on you for what He and you have done to us. We will either defeat you or your will defeat us!” Then one of them said, “We worship the angels who are the daughters of Allah.” Another said, “We shall never believe you until you bring Allah and the angels before us!” After that, the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, stood up to leave the gathering. As he did so, his cousin, Abdullah, the son of Abi Umayyah, son of Mugheira, son of Abdillah, son of Omar, son of Makzoom (who was the son of the Messenger of Allah’s aunt Atika) also stood up and said, “O Muhammad, your people have presented to you what they said, but you refused to accept any of their proposals. Then, they asked you for some things they required and by which they might recognize your high standing in the Sight of Allah, but you declined to do so. Then, they asked you to hasten the punishment that you have warned them about. I swear by Allah, that I shall never believe in you until I see you build a staircase leading to the heavens, climb it and return with a clear scripture together with four angels who would bear witness to that which you claim to be. By Allah, I think that I would not even believe you after you had done so.” Then, he turned away from the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, and the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, left in a state of sadness, because alienating themselves from Islam still further. . THE INVITATION TO ABIL HAYSIM AND YOUTHS FROM THE TRIBE OF BANU ABDIL ASH’HAL AND THE CONVERSION OF IYAS, SON OF MU’ADAH Mahmood, the son of Labid from the tribe of Banu Abdil Ash’hal narrated that Haysim Anas, the son of Rafi and some youths from the tribe of Banu Abdil Ash’hal journeyed to Mecca on behalf of their tribe, the Khazraj, to enlist the help of the Koraysh. Among these young men was Iyas, the son of Mu’adah. Upon hearing of their arrival the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, approached them and asked, “Do you desire something better than that which has brought you here?” They replied, “What is it?” He answered, “I am the Messenger of Allah. Allah has sent me to His servants to call them to worship Him without ascribing partners to Him. Allah has also sent down a Book to me.” The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, then proceeded to tell them of the finer points of Islam and recited part of the Koran whereupon Iyaas, the son of Mu’adah who was still a youngster said to his people, “By Allah, this is indeed better than that which has brought us here.” In distain Abul Haysim Anas, the son of Rafi picked up a handful of pebbles and threw them at the face of Iyas as he said, “Ignore this, I swear by my life that we have come for some other purpose.” Iyas remained silent and the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, departed. Later, the party from Medina set out upon their return journey. This incident occurred during the period when the Medinan tribes of Aws and Khazraj were engaged in the prolonged battle of Bu’aath. Not long after Iyas passed away. Mahmood, the son of Labid narrates that those who were with Iyas as he lay dieing informed him that they had heard Iyas reciting the words ‘Laa Illaaha Illalaah” “Allahu Akbar”, “Subhan Allah” as he passed away. There is no doubt that Iyas died as a Muslim. He accepted Islam when he received the invitation from the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, when he was in Mecca. May Allah be pleased with all the Companions.
