Allah Almighty descends to the lowest heaven every night when the first third of the night has passed and he says: I am the king, I am the king, who is he who calls upon me so that I may respond to him? Who would ask me so I give him? Who is he who seeks my forgiveness so that I may forgive him? He will remain like this until dawn comes.

The hadith (Indeed, a man will be raised in rank in Paradise by asking for his son’s forgiveness) was taken out by Ibn Majah in his Sunan section, Part 2 pg. 203. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said that a man will be raised in rank in Paradise, so he says: How is this? It will be said: By asking your son's forgiveness for you.
