5 The Characteristics of Those Bearing the Transmission of Hadith
The following lists the rules applied by the Masters of this Science for the purpose of
dealing with the characteristics of those to whom the bearing of Hadith was entrusted.
They took into consideration the trustworthiness and piety of the narrators from the Holy
Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, down to the current narrator. They did not accept
any Hadith which was submitted unless they were fully satisfied that it came from the
Holy Prophet Muhammad, praise and peace be upon him. To do this they applied such
