was indeed very knowledgeable and found great pleasure and
satisfaction in his night worship and voluntary fasting, and had
become oblivious to the error of pride and the self-satisfaction he
had fallen into and it was on account of this that his soul had become
tarnished.

Upon this realization Abulhasan became deeply sorrowed and
ashamed of himself, whereupon he immediately sought repentance
from Allah, washed away his pride and it was only then that he was
cleansed and ready to meet his teacher, the Pivot.
