Before Abu Sufyan's arrival a letter addressed to Heraclius arrived from the
Messenger of Allah via the Governor of Basra. Heraclius called for it and read the
letter allowed:
"In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
From Muhammad, the worshipper of Allah and His Messenger.
To Heraclius the ruler of the Byzantines.
Peace be upon whosoever follows the Right Path.
I invite you to Islam.
If you become a Muslim you will be safe,
and Allah will double your reward.
