The Prophet and Abu Bakr returned to their camp and when night fell, he sent
Ali, Zubair and Sa'd together with their companions to the well and told them to
find out if anyone there had news of their enemies, or, if either force had drawn
water from the well.

containers with water and loading them onto the backs of their camels. One of
