day Angel Gabriel, the Spirit of Purity, was sent to her in the likeness of a man
and when she saw him she was very afraid. Gabriel told her not to be afraid
because he had been sent to her from Allah. He told her, 'Allah gives you glad
tidings of a Word from Him, whose name is Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary. He
shall be honored in this world and in the next, and he shall be among those who
are close. He shall speak to people in his cradle and when he is aged, and shall

be righteous.' Mary was surprised and asked, 'Lord, how can I bear a child when
no human has touched me?' He replied, 'Such is the Will of Allah, He creates
whom He will, when He decrees a thing, He only says, "Be" and it is.'
Gabriel told Mary that her son, Jesus, would be given his own Book from Allah,
the Gospel of Jesus, and that he would be taught wisdom and the Torah. Then
he breathed into Mary and she conceived.
The months went by and it was nearing the time for Jesus to be born. One day,
