3. The Sacred Law
There are five classifications of Sacred Law. These are:
a. Recommended (mandub) actions – whose performance is rewarded, and whose non-
performance is not punished²
b. Essential (wajib) actions – whose performance is rewarded, and whose non-performance is
punished
i. Personally essential- an action that every individual is obligated to perform (i.e.
ablution.)
ii. Communally essential – an action that can be performed by one person for the
group (i.e. prayers at a funeral)
