The rights of the husband upon his wife are numerous: the most important are
two:
To keep him chaste and to cover his secrets.
The other is that she should not ask him for things, which are unnecessary. To
refrain from gaining anything unlawful. Thus were the habits of the women in the
early days. When their husbands went out of their houses, the wives and
daughters used to say: “Refrain from gaining any unlawful things as we can bear
hunger and pain but we cannot bear Hell Fire.”
It is a duty of the wife not to squander his money or wealth but she should
assiduously keep it.
