But, since that was not the aim of their science, they did not deal with the
question thoroughly in their thinking and consequently did not arrive at
results sufficient to rid the universal darkness of confusion arising from the
different views of men. It is possibile that for others than myself, these
results are sufficient; indeed, I have no doubt that this has been enough for
many. But these results are mingled with naive belief in some matters
which are not included among true values.
My purpose here though, is to describe my own case, not to disparage
those who sought a remedy by talim, for cures vary with diseases. How
often is one man‟s medicine another‟s poison!
2. Philosophy.

convinced that a man cannot grasp what is defective in any science unless
he has such a complete grasp of that science that he equals its most
learned promoter in the appreciation of its fundamental principles, and then
