Imam Shafi‟i excelled in his examination of all the jurist records. He evolved an
alignment of the science of jurisprudence with the Koran and prophetic sayings in such a
way that compelled jurists who came after him to adjust accordingly.
It is well known that Imam Shafi‟is companion of four years in Iraq, Imam Ahmad ibn
Hanbal, followed him in jurisprudence. Even though Imam Ahmad was himself a giant in
the transmission of hadith, he celebrated the genius juristic capability of Imam Shafi‟i.
It is a great shame that a group of Khawarij (outlawed) who lay claim to follow Imam
Ahmad ibn Hanbal have sent their missionary preachers to Malaysia and Indonesia to
create confusion amongst the masses who have for many centuries followed Imam
Shafi‟i. These missionaries introduce to the unsuspecting masses idol attributes to the
Lord such as the size of 60 arm lengths, having the image of Adam, sitting physically
upon the throne – in other words making a male figure.
Our creed, established over 1430 years ago is stable. It is taught in traditional institutions
such as Azhar. This recently emerged fanatical group is attacking our established creed.
