The son of Isaac tells of the time Ali, who was still a young boy but had the intelligence
of a youth twice his age, embraced Islam.
One day Ali came across Prophet Muhammad and Lady Khadijah, peace be upon them,
offering their prayer and exclaimed, “O Muhammad, what are you doing?” The
Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, answered, “This is the Religion of
Allah that He has chosen and for which He sent His prophets. I invite you to the One and
only God, Allah, who has no partners. I call upon you to worship Him alone and to
renounce Al Laat and Al Uzza.” Ali expressed his surprise and said, “I have never heard
of anything like this before. I cannot decide upon anything until I have spoken to Abu
Talib.” The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, wished his secret to
remain as such until he had chance to personally make known his calling to the
prophethood, so he said, “O Ali, if you are not going to accept Islam, I ask you to keep
this a secret.”
Ali was in a state of bewilderment, and spent the night thinking about what the
Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, had told him. The following morning
Ali went to the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him and asked, “Tell me
