THE CONVERSION OF DHI JOWSHIN DHABABI

Dhi Jowshin Dhababi spoke of the time he embraced Islam saying, “I went to the
Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon, after the Battle of Badr, taking with me
the foal of Qar‟ha my horse. I said to the Messenger of Allah, „O Muhammad I have
brought with me my horse‟s foal so that you may use it for yourself.‟ The Messenger of
Allah, praise and peace be upon him, graciously replied, „I have no need for it, however,
if you wish to exchange it for a suit of armor from the Battle of Badr you may choose
which ever one you wish.” I replied, “I am not prepared to exchange this pedigree horse
today.” And the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, politely told him that
he had no need of it. Then he said, “O Dhi Jowshin, why don‟t you accept Islam and be
among those who are the first to accept Islam?” I replied that I did not want to.

Whereupon the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, ask why. I replied,
