The supplication was made on a Wednesday and the following day Omar accepted
Islam. When the Muslims learned of Omar‟s conversion they shouted out at the top of
their voices “Allahu Akbar.” It was so loud that it was heard in the upper parts of Mecca.
When Arqam‟s blind father, who remained in disbelief, heard the exclamations he came
out of his house saying, “O Allah, forgive my child Arqam, he has rejected our religion.”

(After accepting Islam) Omar said to the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon
him, “Why should we keep our Religion secret when we are on the truth whereas the
false religion of the unbelievers is made public?” The Messenger of Allah, praise and
peace be upon him, replied, “We are only a few and you have just seen the beating we
