"The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) in a land close by.

But, in a few years after their defeat they shall become the victors." Koran 3O:2-3.

Referring to the Romans, Abu Bakr was heard to say to the unbelievers of Mecca as
they celebrated the defeat of the Romans, "Our brothers in faith will win." Then Abu
Bakr made a stake with the unbelievers that the event would occur before the passing of
