From this example our attention is drawn to the importance the Prophet, praise and
peace be upon him, placed on acquiring Islamic knowledge and recall the instruction of
Allah to him when Gabriel brought the first part of the Revelation which instructs:
“Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created,
created the human from a (blood) clot.
Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous,
who taught by the pen,
taught the human what he did not know.” 96:1-5
As for those who were neither wealthy nor literate, the Prophet praise and peace be
upon him, in his mercy released them.
