It was now the eleventh year since the migration and during the month of Safar the
Prophet (salla Allahu alihi wa sallam) appointed Osama, the son of the martyred Zayd, to
command the strong army of Muslims to ride out against the hostile the Ghasanis.
In the beginning of Safar 11H, the Prophet went to Uhud and prayed for the martyrs as if
it was a farewell for the living and the dead.
Thereafter he went to the pulpit and said, “I am your envoy sent in advance and a
witness for you. By Allah, I am looking at my Pool at this moment, and I was given the
keys to the treasures of earth and by Allah, I do not fear that you revert to idolatry after
me, but I fear that you compete for it (worldly wealth).”
The Visit to the Cemetery
In the stillness of the night the Prophet (salla Allahu alihi wa sallam) arose and went to
the cemetery of Baquia and asked for forgiveness for its inhabitants saying, “Peace be
upon you, O people of the graves. Rejoice your morning is better than those people
(who live), for disasters are coming as the darkness of night, the last of which follows the
first of it, and the last of it is worst of the first. Then he bore glad tidings to the inhabitants
