a stick in his hand. He cast it down away saying, „Allah does not
break His promise, nor His Messenger, praise and peace be upon
him.‟ Then he noticed a dog lying under his seat and asked, „When
did this dog come in?‟ I (Lady Ayesha, wife of the Prophet, may
Allah be pleased with her, Mother of Believers) said, „I did not know
it had come in.‟ He asked for it to be put outside and so it was driven
out. Then Gabriel came and the Prophet, praise and peace be upon
him, said to him, „You promised to visit me and I sat waiting for you
but you did not come.‟ He replied, „I was delayed by the dog in your
house. We do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a
portrait.‟"

Muslim with a chain up to Lady Ayesha, wife of the Prophet, may Allah be pleased
with her, Mother of Believers who related that the Messenger of Allah, praise and
peace be upon him, said this.
