“We were in the graveyard of Baqi'ah attending a funeral when the
Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, came and sat
down so we gathered round him. He had a pointed stick in his hand.
He bent down and began to scrape the ground with his stick and
said, „Everyone of you has his place allotted either in the Fire or in
Paradise.‟ The Companions asked, „O Messenger of Allah, praise
and peace be upon him, shouldn't we rely upon what is written in
our record?‟ He answered, „Keep on working, because everyone is
guided to that for which he was created.‟"
Bukhari and Muslim with a chain up to Ali may Allah honor his face - who related
that the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, said this.

belongings and his deeds. The first two leave but the third remains.”
