Meanwhile, news of Abu Sufyan‟s presence circulated throughout the camp, and Abbas
with Abu Sufyan mounted on his ride rode behind him. When Omar beat Abu Sufyan
upon his neck Omar had exclaimed, “By Allah, you will die before you even draw near to
the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him!” and Abu Sufyan told Abbas of
his fear and so Abbas gave him his protection.
Upon seeing the large number of tribesmen at the camp and observing their high degree
of discipline Abu Sufyan commented, “Never before have I seen such a concentration of
people as I have seen tonight.” Abbas warned Abu Sufyan, “Indeed if you do not accept
Islam and bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, you will be killed.”
That night Abu Sufyan spent the night in the tent of Abbas reflecting upon Abbas‟
statement that he had been unable to utter. As for Hakeem, son of Hizam, and Budayl,
son of Waraqa, they both went to the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be up him,
embraced Islam and the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, asked
them about the people of Mecca.
It was now time for the Fajr prayer and the Call to Prayer was announced and everyone
