Abdullah went to the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, and asked, “O
Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, will you grant amnesty to my
father?” The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, replied, “Yes, indeed
he has the protection of Allah and may leave his house.” Then addressing his
Companions he said, “Whosoever meets Suhayl should not look at him sternly so that
he may leave his house in peace. I swear by my life that Suhayl possesses both
intelligence and esteem. A person such as he cannot be ignorant about Islam. He
already realizes that whatever effort he made (against Islam) have been futile.”

Abdullah returned to his father and reported what the Messenger of Allah, praise and
peace be upon him, had said. Suhayl exclaimed, “By Allah, he was an excellent person
in his youth and now in old age.” Suhayl then left his house and went to meet the
Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, and although he remained an
unbeliever accompanied him at the Battle of Hunain. However after the battle Suhyal
