displayed against me, for every journey he undertook to any destination with the
intention of extinguishing Your light. Also, forgive him for each defamatory remark he
made either to my face or behind my back.” Ikrima was well pleased and expressed his
gratitude to the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, saying, “O
Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, I swear by Allah that for all the
expense I bore opposing the Religion of Allah, I will spend double that amount in the
path of Allah. I also swear that for every battle I fought opposing the Religion of Allah I
shall fight twice the number of battles in the path of Allah.” (He was true to his word and)
Ikrima fought in each hostility until he was martyred.

The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, renewed Ikrima‟s marriage
without a new contractual obligation.
