The Obligation of Fasting Depends on Seeing the Hilal

If you see the crescent moon (hilal) then you fast, and if you see it then break your fast, but if it is closed from you then fast for thirty days.

But the month is twenty-nine days, so do not fast until you see it, and do not break your fast until you see it. If it is closed to you then estimate (i.e. complete the thirty days of Shaban).
