This honorable chapter is amongst those revealed in Mecca, and consists of seven
verses.

Al Fatihah is considered to be a brief summary of the entire Koran because it entails all
that is clarified and detailed therein. It is therefore called: "The Opener" because it is the
key of the Koran and its opening chapter. It is the foundation of the Koran, and the
chapter of the treasure, and suffices. It is the cure, the recovery, the seven oft mentioned
verses, the light, the talisman, the chapter of praise and thanking, supplication, teaching
and how to ask. It is the chapter of surrendering to Allah, the chapter of asking, the
Mother of the Book, the Opener of the Koran and the prayer.

The characteristics of "The Opener" chapter:

The previously mentioned ten objectives of the outline of the explanation of the Koran
and those that stem from it are summarized in this chapter. It is because of this we now
know why "The Opener" chapter is referred to as the "Mother of the Book, and the Great
Koran". All these characteristics are special to this chapter alone. They are not shared
by another chapter.
