Prophetic sayings speak of the characteristics of "The Opener" as being the greatest
chapter in the Koran. The consensus of most jurists is that among its characteristics is
that no other chapter replaces it in the obligatory daily prayers.

In the authentic hadith the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, said to father of
Saied, Muwalah's son, "I will teach you the greatest chapter in the Koran before you
leave." The Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, was about to leave, when Abu
Saied asked him about it. The Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, said, “It is,
'Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Words ….' It is the seven oft repeated verses and the
Great Koran which I was given." Reported by Ahmad and Bukhari.

Its virtue:

Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet, praise and
peace be upon him, said, "The prayer is incomplete of whosoever prays but does not
