Prophet Jesus during his time up until the time before the advent of Prophet
Muhammad.

The Christians referred to are those who abandoned the teachings of Prophet Jesus and
opted to follow the Trinitarian teachings of Paul, and are those, who, after the advent of
Prophet Muhammad, praise and peace be upon him, rejected him. Their straying is the
result of their misleading others and taking their bishops, popes, priests and monks for
lords. In the chapter "The Table" Allah speaks of them saying that they strayed and
mislead others. Allah says:
“Say, 'People of the Book! Do not exaggerate your religion, other than the truth, and do
not follow the desires of a people who went astray before, and led many astray, and,
(once again) have gone astray from the Straight Path.'” 5:77
This is the consensus of all the scholars of interpretation. Peace be upon all the
prophets of Allah. These verses also cover speak of their moral corruption.
