Other supportive evidence is that when Caliph Othman and his committee of scribes
copied the Koran in a bound volume - copies of which were then spread to all corners of
the earth and still exist – each chapter with the exception of chapter 9 “Tauba” start with
the word “Bismillah” as the scribes had been ordered by the Prophet not to add anything
to the Koran.
Later some people were of the opinion that perhaps “Al Fatihah” had no “Bismillah” at its
beginning, and this is not the case. There are some scholars who incline to this opinion

is.
Imam Shafi'is argument is endorsed in authentic quotations of the Prophet, praise and
peace be upon him. The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, would
recite, "Bismillah Ir Rahman Ir Raheem, praise be to Allah Lord of the Worlds".
Abbas' son argument is that it is written in the early manuscripts of the Koran and that
they, the scribes, were ordered not to write anything other than the Koran.
