before Islam Abu Bakr had become a very dear and close friend of the Messenger of
Allah, praise and peace be upon him.
One day Abu Bakr went to visit the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him,
and asked him - addressing him by the name of his son Qasim - “O Abu Qasim, why
don’t you attend the gatherings of your tribe? Is it true what the Koraysh are saying that
we should forsake our gods, and when they refuse you refer to them as unbelievers?”
The Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, replied in his gentle yet
authorative way, “Yes, by Allah, I have been sent as the Messenger of Allah to convey
His message. With absolute certainty I am calling you to Allah – this is indeed the truth.
O Abu Bakr I call you to the One and only God, Allah, who does not have a partner. Do
not worship anyone or anything other than Him and be obedient to Him.” Then the
Prophet, praise and peace be upon, recited passages from the Koran to Abu Bakr
whereupon Abu Bakr embraced Islam forsaking the idols, and rejecting the concept of
the Creator having a partner.
Abu Bakr knew the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, was a man of integrity and
truthfulness and had never been known to lie about any matter, so it was impossible for
Abu Bakr to conceive that the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, would lie about a
Allah, praise and peace be upon him.
