THE PROPHET’S INVITATION TO AMR, SON OF ABASA
Abu Umaamah asked Amr, Abasa‟s son on what did he base his claim that he was the
fourth person to accept Islam. Amr replied, “Even during the Age of Ignorance, I realized
that people were astray, and I had no inclination toward idol worshipping. When I
learned of a person who had appeared in Mecca and who spoke of many events and
matters, that caught my attention, so I rode straight away to Mecca.
When I reached Mecca I was not surprised to learn people were harrasing the
Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, and found he was not easy to
locate. I was subtle in my inquires as to where I might find him and did so I indirectly
asked where he might be found. Eventually I located and met with him. I asked him,
„What are you?‟ Whereupon he replied, „I am the Prophet of Allah.‟ I asked, “What is a
