ABU JAHL REJECTS ISLAM
Mughiera, the son of Shu‟ba narrates the time when the Messenger of Allah, praise and
peace be upon him, invited Abu Jahl to accept Islam.
Mughiera did not know who the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, was
until one day he met him walking with Abu Jahl along one of the allies of Mecca. The
Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, said to Abu Jahl, “O Abul Hakam
(another name for Abu Jahl), come to Allah and His Messenger. I am inviting you to
Allah.” Abu Jahl replied, “O Muhammad, will you never refrain from insulting our gods?
Do you want us to bear witness that you have conveyed the message? We then bear
witness that we you have. I swear by Allah that I would have certainly followed you, if I
knew what you say is the truth.”
Mughiera, the son of Shu‟ba narrated that upon the departure of the Messenger of Allah,
praise and peace be upon him, Abu Jahl said to him, “By Allah, I know for certain that
whatever he says is the truth. However, there is one thing preventing me from accepting
the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, and that is he belongs to the
family of the Bani Qusay. When the Bani Qusay said, “Keeping the keys of the Ka‟bah is
