our duty”, we (the other families of the Koraysh) accepted. And again, when they said,
“Give water to the people who perform the pilgrimage is our duty”, we accepted.

Thereafter when they said, “Chairing public meetings is our duty”, we again accepted.
Then when they said, “Bearing the banner during times of war is our duty,” we accepted.
After that they (the Muslims) feed the people and we also feed the people and we are
almost equal that that. But, they say, “We have a Prophet among us” by Allah, I will
never accept this!”

WALEED, THE SON OF MUGHIERA REJECTS ISLAM

Abdullah, the son of Abbas narrates that Waleed, the son of Mughiera went to the
Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, who proceeded to recite some
verses of the Koran to him. Upon hearing the recitation Waleed‟s heart began to soften.

When Abu Jahl learned of Waleed‟s inclination he rebuked him saying, “O uncle, your
people intend collecting money for you.” Waleed asked, “Why is this?” Abu Jahl replied,
