Chosroes (Kisra). (Upon Shuja‟s arrival) Chosroes had his palace decorated and
gathered eminent personnel from his empire to it (to demonstrate his importance) before
admitting Shuja to his presence. When Shuja entered, Chosroes ordered that the letter
of the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, be taken from Shuja and
handed to another person. However, Shujaa refused to surrender the letter and insisted


that he personally deliver it to Chosroes as the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be
upon him, had commanded him to do so. Chosroes permitted him to draw close and in
doing so Shuja delivered the letter. Chosroes took it then summoned one of his scribes
from Hira to read it out loud. The letter read:

From Muhammad, son of Abdullah, the Messenger of Allah
To Chosroes, Emperor of Persia

The fact that the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, had began the
letter with his name first aroused Chosroes fury to the extent he tore the letter into
shreds before knowing its contents. He then ordered Shuja out of his court. As Shuja
