day and month on which it was said. When the envoy returned, he was told that
Chosroes was dead.
At the end of Bazar‟s narration of Dihya Kalbi‟s deliverance of the Messenger of Allah‟s
letter to Heraclius, Emperor of Rome he added that when Dihya returned to Medina, he
found the envoys from San‟aa (Yemen) had arrived. They had arrived there in
compliance with the command of Chosroes who had written to Badhan, the Persian
governor of Yemen. The order that Chosroes sent was that Badhan must send his men
to put a stop to the person from that region who had sent him (Chosroes) a letter inviting
him to embrace Islam, or to pay the head tax (Jizya levied against non-Muslims).
Chosroes threatened his governor (Badham) that if he failed to do this he would take
stern measures and put him to death. In response to this the governor of San‟aa sent the
twenty-five men Dihya found with the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon
him.
The narration continues and says that their spokesman read the letter (from Badhan) out
to the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, but he made no comment and
