“Abu Bakr met a woman from the tribe of Ahas whose name was
Zainab and he noticed that she did not speak. He inquired, „Why
doesn't she speak?‟ He was informed, „She has sworn a vow of
silence.‟ Upon hearing this he told her, „Speak, silence is not
permissible. It was a practice in the Days of Ignorance (pre-Islamic
days).‟ Thereupon she spoke.”
Bukhari with a chain up to Kais the son of Abu Hazim who related this.
