As for Imam Ali, may Allah honor his face, who became the foremost of the Companions
of the explanation of the Koran, he passed its knowledge on to Abbas' son. This was
because Ali did not focus solely on the explanation of the Koran, whereas Abbas' son
and Masood's son did, may Allah be pleased with them.

Therefore, the three fountainheads – the explanation of the Koran, the Prophetic sayings
and the explanation reported from the Companions – are the primary source of the
explanation.

The Companions passed their knowledge of the explanation on to the next generation.
The next generation did not explain the Koran from any other source, may Allah be
pleased with them.
