History of the explanation of the Koran:

During the time of the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, his Companions and the
generation who followed them memorized the sayings of the Prophet,

Later, Omar the son of Abdul Aziz and his father, who were rulers, ordered the official
gathering of all the written collections of hadith. It is only in this day and age that we
learn that although Abu Hurayrah reported over 5,000 prophetic sayings, 46 of them
were reported exclusively by him. This means that the prophetic sayings were reported
by many Companions, which we can for the sake of clarity break the hadith collection
into two:

(1) The core recorded in the time of the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, without
repetition.

(2) The largest collection which has between 5 and 10 repeats of the same statement of
the Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, but from different sets of transmitters.
