famous 6 and famous 9 books of hadith contain most of the hadith and there are only
12% repeats amongst them.
It was upon the death of some of the Companions and those who followed that the
decision was taken that those who had received the knowledge of the explanation
should write it down. This course of action protected its knowledge from loss, kept it
intact and thereafter transmitted to the succeeding and future generations without loss. It
is because of this protective course of action that many transmissions of the same hadith
have different chains of narrators.
The major references of prophetic quotations contain dedicated chapters collecting the
explanation of the Prophet of the Koran. The transmitters of the science of the
explanation are well known and when these major early prophetic saying references
were archived and recorded, many chapters were dedicated to the prophetic explanation
of the Koran. Amongst the leading collections are those of Imam Nisaa'i, and Tirmidhi.
