When the two men returned to Yemen they informed Badham about their experience,
and told him, “This is not the speech of a king. We should certainly investigate the truth
of what he said.” The three did not have to wait long before a letter arrived from Sherway
that, after the formalities, read, “With the support of the Persian people, I, in a moment of
extreme anger, killed Chosroes, because he thought nothing was wrong in killing
Persian nobles without a valid reason. Pledge your allegiance to me from the people of
Yemen and make sure that you do not harm that person (the Messenger of Allah, praise
and peace be upon him), whom Chosroes ordered you to take captive.”
