him. On the seventh day, the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him, told
him. “I advise you to adopt Taqwa (Although commonly translated as "fear for Allah" or
"piety", the word Taqwa refers to such consciousness of Allah or such piety that drives a
person to carry out all Allah's commands and to stay away from everything that Allah has
prohibited) in privacy and in public. In addition to this, when you do something wrong, do
a good deed immediately thereafter, never ask anyone for anything even if your whip
should fall from your hand and never accept any trust.”
THE PLEDGE OF SAHL, SON OF SA’AD AND OTHER
COMPANIONS
Sahl, the son of Sa‟ad said that he was with Abu Dharr, Ubadah, son of Samit, Abu
Sa‟ed Khudri, Muhammad, son of Maslam and a sixth Companion when they pledged
that they would never be affected by the criticism of any critic when it concerned Allah.
When the sixth person requested to be relieved from the pledge the Messenger of Allah,
praise and peace be upon him, relieved him.
Ubadah, son of Samit narrates that he was with several chieftains (of Medina) who
pledged their allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, praise and peace be upon him. He
